  5. Anyap says:

Are you sure your formula is correct?

    E.g. 2280 – 10% = 2052

but on your table at the top it shows = 2072.73

    Confused :S

    • Dazz says:

You can’t “minus” 10% to calculate what GST is included.

      Lets work with $3000
      3000 * 1.1 (Amount + 10%) is 3300 Total Including GST
      3000 * 0.1 (10%) is 300 is the GST amount.

Going backwards with your math you’ll see an issue.
3300 * 0.1 (Amount of calculated GST to remove) is 330.
      3300 – 330 is 2970 – Oops, that’s not right. We started with 3000.

THUS – In order to calculate the amount of GST that’s inside of an amount with GST, we divide by 11.

      3300 / 11 = 300 GST Amount.
      3300 – 300 = 3000 Back to our amount before GST.

Go look at page 9, for working out how GST-Exclusive, and GST-Inclusive calculations work.

      So back to your example;
      Inclusive GST:
      2280 / 11 = 207.2727
      2280 – 207.2727 = 2072.7272

      • Anyap says:

Yeap, realised that – I always use the formulas you described but that particular day got stuck to thinking why the answer cant be the same if you simply minus 10% from the total if GST usually is 10% anyway?

Thanks Dareen and keep up the good work.

        Cheers,
        Anya

hi, if I make $100000 how much do I have to pay GST. I am a field worker( Telephone cable installer ). is that all do I have to pay as tax?

        thanks

        • Dazz says:

It’s best to get in touch with an accountant. Depends how your registered, how much is made etc. GST is only a part of managing Aussie Tax.
As before, get in touch with an accountant. They’ll be able to tell you more.
